Ingredients wheat flour (BL-55), sugar, skimmed milk powder, whole egg powder, dried yeast, table salt, enzymes (contains gluten). Produced in a facility that also processes egg, soy, sesame, milk-based products, and tree nuts. Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light.

Soft Kalács Recipe

Make soft, fluffy, fragrant kalács at home with Czelli Soft Kalács Flour Blend. It's perfect braided or rolled into swirls, especially served with homemade butter.

Ingredients

Czelli Soft Kalács Flour Blend 500 g
Lukewarm water 220 g
Butter 50 g
Egg 1, for the glaze only

Instructions

1. Place the ingredients in a mixing bowl and knead into an elastic dough in a few minutes. It comes together easily with a stand mixer or by hand.

2. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.

3. If you'd like a braided kalács, divide the dough into 3 or 4 equal pieces and shape them into ropes.

4. Roll the ropes to about 30 cm (12 in) long, then braid them into a loaf.

5. Alternatively, you can roll each long rope into an individual swirl.

6. Place the shaped kalács on a parchment-lined baking sheet and, depending on your kitchen temperature, let it rise covered for 50–65 minutes.

7. Brush the surface of the risen dough with egg.

Baking suggestion

Place the dough in a preheated oven on conventional (top-and-bottom) heat, at about 180 °C (350 °F).

Once the dough is in the oven, reduce the temperature to about 165 °C (330 °F), depending on your oven, and bake for 35–40 minutes. Let it cool, and enjoy.

Serving tip

We like it best with homemade butter.
